In 1658, during the wars with Sweden a Swedish soldier, Ola Månsson =Svedne Ola, deserted. The year after Brændte Ola was hid by lightening and its hollow trunk was split in two. Inside the trunk, the burned body of Svedna Ola was found.

Figures from 1995, refer to live part of trunk (= age 310-200 yrs based on Holten, Dansk Dendrol. Årsskr. 26: Fig.1, 1998). Originally Brændte Ole (Ola) was among the largest oaks in Denmark. Total age = 2x diam.of live trunk.
