Hørsholm Arboret has two trees of Picea maximowiczii (nr. 168-65), grown from wild-collected seed from Japan. These are the only wild-origin Picea maximowiczii I know of in northern Europe; trees grown as this species in Britain are second-generation plants, and appear to be hybrids with other Picea species.

Last time I saw them (about 20 years ago) they were still too young to have cones, but they should be old enough now. Does anyone know if they do have cones now? If yes, I would be interested in some for my cone herbarium, if anyone is able to collect them.

Mange tak,

Michael
